Market Sample Dip From Lex's Pantry
Share
We didn't plan for this to happen, but once we started sharing samples of our spices at markets every week, the demand for From Lex's Spices dips grew!
With so many people asking us how to make this, it seemed foolish not to just share the recipe with you here!
Market Sample Dip Recipe
This recipe works with most of our spice blends so give it a try if you are looking for a fun new dip, sandwich spread, drizzle or even quick flavour hit for for mayo-based salads like potato salad.
Ingredients
- 2T Sour Cream (we use Gay Lea's Original full fat)
- 2T Mayonnaise (we use Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise)
- 1.5t Spice Blend (try it with any of the ones on the list below)
Instructions
- Mix sour cream, mayo and spice mix together until fully combined.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for the best results.
- Serve with veggies, tortilla chips, fries or anything else you like to dip.
Don't want to Dip? No problem, there are so many options.
You can use this to amp up the flavours anywhere you would use mayo or sour cream.
- Try spreading it on sandwich bread and wraps.
- Try coating your chicken or cauliflower with one of the dips before baking or barbecuing.
- Try using it in lieu of sour cream with baked potatoes.
Try it with our:
- Danforth Greek Spice
- Spicy Guac
- Montreal Red
- Shakshuka
- Bricklayer
- Taco Spice
- Montreal Spice
- Butter Masala
- Shawarma Spice
- Memphis Zero Rub
- Shakshuka Spice
- Wing Rub
- Kofta Kebab Spice
- Fajita Spice
- Texas Brisket
- Preston Italian
The Montreal Spice and Shakshuka market sample dips have turned into favourite sandwich spreads at home.

hi Lisa,
sorry about the confusion with my notation. It is not a typo, it’s a restaurant kitchen notation that I grew up with.
Here is the legend
T = Tablespoon
t = teaspoon
So in this recipe, it’s:
2 Tablespoons of Mayo
2 Tablespoons of Sour Cream
1.5 teaspoons of spice blend.
Another way to look at it, and make it with ANY measure is to use ratios:
4 mayo + 4 sour cream + 1 spice = market sample dip.
That way you can use any spoon you have available. Just measure the spice first so the bag doesn’t get gloopy.
When using your spice for a dip, recipe calls for T’s of mix, mayo, sour cream. Teaspoon or tablespoon of each??
