Beef Shawarma Marinade Blend Recipe
Share
Traditionally Beef Shawarma is prepared by thinly slicing and marinating the beef, before stacking the slices on a vertical rotisserie where it cooks slowly. Slices are taken off the outside and served stuffed into a pita with veggies, pickles and sauces like hummus, tahini, tzatziki and/or garlic sauce.
Ingredients
- 2T Beef Shawarma Marinade Blend From Lex’s Pantry
- 2lb Beef - flank steak or skirt steak preferred (but it will work with any inexpensive roast too)
- ½ c Lemon juice
- ¼ c Olive oil
Instructions
- Slice the beef into thin slices.
- Combine Beef Shawarma Marinade Blend with olive oil and lemon juice, and mix thoroughly.
- Add spice mixture to the beef and mix evenly to coat all the meat.
- Cover and marinate from 30 minutes to overnight in the refrigerator.
- Sear your beef slices on your barbecue over high heat or in a heavy cast iron pan over medium to medium-high heat to get that dry sear that is traditional Shawarma.
- Serve wrapped up in a pita or with rice and salad.
Alternatives Ways to Cook your Beef Shawarma
Sure you can use your barbecue or a cast iron pan for a quick sear, but why not experiment a bit and try:
on the Barbecue
a slightly more traditional method by threading your meat onto skewers and slow roasting it indirect on low-medium to medium.
In the Kitchen
Try slow roast skewers in your oven. Yum!
Have a Rotisserie?
why not try the tried and true method and build a cone-shaped spit of meat and slow roast it on your rotisserie. If you have a horitzontal rotisserie, just put a pan of diced potatoes or root vegetables underneath to catch all those wonderful dripping juices.
It's not for every day, but certainly fun to do occasionally.
